Minutes of Board and Quarterly Members’ Meeting

Leesville Lake Association, Inc., October 11, 2012

Altavista Train Station, Altavista, Va.

Present: Bratz, Marshall, Moore, Pettit, Zimmerman and 17 other members of the Assn.

Absent: Beaton, Dalton, Estes, Revelle, Tannehill

Call to Order: By Zimmerman at 7:05 p.m.

Minutes of September 12 Board Meeting: Approved as submitted Oct. 8 on motion by Moore, second by Marshall.

Treasurer's Report: Statement of Income and Expense, Balance Sheet, and P&L YTD Comparison approved on motion by Pettit, second by Bratz.

Guest Speaker: Zimmerman introduced Mr. Larry Jackson, External Affairs Manager, Appalachian Power Co. (AEP), who discussed the construction of an 86 ft. floating dock, 60 ft. ramp and other improvements at the public picnic area above the Leesville Dam and, on the river below the dam, a public canoe launch site on the Campbell Co. side and a private ramp for the VDGIF on the Pittsylvania Co. side. He answered questions about the project, debris removal and other topics for nearly 80 minutes and committed to giving Zimmerman written replies to several. Zimmerman said he would provide the answers to Assn. members.

Committee Reports

Membership (Moore): 1. 308 members; 66% renewal rate; 1 new member since Sept. 30 or 17% of the FY goal of 6. 2. New chairman and more members are desired. 3. Next newsletter nearly finished. Deadline for 4th quarter issue is Oct. 15. 4. Seek Fall photos for 2013 calendar by Oct. 15.

Debris: (No chairman)

Navigational Aids (Pettit): Briefed submitted report. (Report on buoy marker process and requirements, asked for at last meeting, remains to be given.)

Water Quality (Lobue): Reported by e-mail. Zimmerman added: 1. Lynchburg College to sample Old Woman’s Creek and Pigg River and report results. 2. Highlights of the discovery and reactions to date about invasive native and non-native weeds in the lake.

Health & Safety: (No chairman)

Public Relations (Bratz): Briefed e-mailed report and said efforts to schedule two Boating Safety Courses and some Vessel Safety Checks next year are underway.

Old Business: None

New Business: Zimmerman highlighted recent discussions with TLAC and said no decision regarding Assn. membership in that organization has been made as yet.
